The Canopy Lodge is nestled just outside the town of El Valle de Anton, situated in the caldera of an ancient extinct volcano. Surrounding the lodge lies lush foothills cloud forest and the Cerro Gaital National Monument. The lodge has 12 spacious rooms with balconies, private bathrooms and great views of the garden. The open-air veranda, dining room and lounge has a peaceful atmosphere for watching the birds at the fruit feeders in the garden, taking a siesta in a hammock or reading a book. Just meters from the veranda, a tranquil, moving stream passes through the property. Aracaris, oropendolas, jays and many species of tanagers are seen in the gardens daily. Across the footbridge, a pond and natural swimming pool are nestled among the gardens for guests to enjoy.

How this lodge promotes good stewardship of the environment:

Much like its sister lodge the Canopy Tower, Canopy Lodge engages in sustainability in its everyday operations. From energy conservation by using energy-saving lightbulbs and appliances, natural air conditioning by the surrounding environment (no central air here), reducing water consumption by washing linens once every 3 days and grey water is used for keeping the gardens looking lush in the dry season. Wastes are reduced by purchasing food (most from local sources) and supplies in bulk thus reducing packaging, and soap and shampoo is supplied in dispensers and not throw-away plastic bottles to reduce excessive waste. We actively talk about our sustainability efforts with our guests and invite them to join in on our endeavours in their daily lives.

Furthermore, the lodge was constructed using materials from the local area and emphasizes the beauty of the surrounding natural environment. We support local organizations and involve our activities in the local community.

What To Do:

The Canopy Lodge specializes in high-quality birding and nature tours. Join a tour with one of Canopy Lodge's expert, bilingual professional guides to some of the nearby sites and access a wide variety of habitats, such as the cloud forest of Cerro Gaital and Altos del Maria, Pacific Dry forest of Cara Iguana and Anton, and enjoy the Pacific Ocean at Santa Clara, or the wet Caribbean rain forest at Rio Indio.

Beside the Canopy Lodge is the Canopy Adventure, a 4-line zip line tour that takes you not once, but twice over Chorro El Macho, the largest waterfall in the region. If zip lining is not your thing, a short trail leads to the waterfall for spectacular views. The Canopy Adventure also has a popular natural swimming pool.

In the bustling town of El Valle, there are many attractions including the ever-popular El Valle Artisan Market, hot springs, El Valle Amphibian Conservation Center & El Nispero Zoo, Butterfly House, Serpentarium, Orchid Garden, and more.

What They Have:

The Canopy Lodge is located in the cool foothills of western Panama, where there is always a light breeze and therefore no need for air conditioning. Each room has a fan and private bathroom. Wifi is available in the lounge, and a computer is available for guest use. Canopy Lodge offers high-quality birding and nature tours led by world class, bilingual naturalist guides. Meals are served family-style, offering a delicious variety of Panamanian and International fare. Prior to dinner, appetizers and bar service are available, and wine is complimentary with dinner. Special dietary requests are happily accommodated.

All-inclusive packages include airport transfers, and transfers can be arranged by request.
