Shamba Kilole Eco Lodge consists of a 5 hectares plot, rich in water and fertile soils, located on the east coast of Mafia Island. It is a 6 bungalows Eco-Lodge surrounded by big trees and with the spectacular view of the sea and the Islands of the Archipelago.
These structures have been projected to be in symbiosis with the landscape, inspired by the simplicity of the local architectonic tradition. We try to create a spirit and serenity of a primitive place with a very low environmental impact, almost invisible, well integrated in the scenery.
Coconut leaves, canes, reeds, weaved straw, bamboo, mats and local fabrics have been used.
The external of the houses are made in mud, stones and bricks according to the architectural beauties of the local houses.
How this lodge promotes good stewardship of the environment:
Shamba Kilole Eco-Lodge is the only Lodge in Mafia Island as a Certified Eco-Lodge.
To be a Certified Eco-Lodge means to be able to adopt safe systems to ensure the environmental conservation by avoiding any form of pollution and provide a linkage between sustainable development and terrestrial and marine biodiversity and ecosystem process conservation, which are the safeguard of the our global patrimony.
What To Do:
The most outstanding activities in Mafia are the marine activities : diving, snorkeling and sailing.
However, we are pleased to offer you the opportunity to visit Mafia Archipelago coast and landscape as well.
We organize boat excursions and picnics to isolated islets nearly every day according to the tide situation, as well as road safaris.
Scuba Diving, Snorkeling and Excursions are arranged at evening before dinner for the next day.
